Radio Nostalgia streams jazz, swing, chansons and schlagers drawn entirely from the 78 RPM record era, 1900 through 1958, broadcasting out of the Netherlands. It is free to stream right now on Radio Shuffle, anywhere in the world, no account required.
One Collector's Archive, Turned Into a Station
Radio Nostalgia launched in 1999, built around the personal 78 RPM record collection of founder Jan Hovers. What started as one collector's archive of shellac discs grew into a running stream, turning a private hobby into a station other people could tune into and share.
The Format That Ruled Half a Century
The 78 RPM disc was the dominant recorded music format for longer than any format that followed it, staying in common use for roughly half a century before singles and LPs took over. That same era is now the subject of preservation efforts like the Internet Archive's Great 78 Project, which digitizes old shellac records for public listening, a parallel international push to keep the same recordings Radio Nostalgia built its entire identity around from disappearing.
A Playlist Without Borders
The station's format reflects exactly what record presses were putting out during the 78 RPM years: jazz, swing and big band alongside American and Dutch hits, French chansons, German schlagers and British dance bands, all mixed into one rotation. Rather than sticking to a single country or genre, Radio Nostalgia treats the era itself as the format, letting listeners hear how music actually traveled across Europe and the Atlantic before genres split into separate stations and separate audiences.
