NRJ Sweden streams current pop hits and energetic entertainment from Stockholm, the Swedish branch of one of the world's biggest radio networks. It is free to listen right now, anywhere in the world, no account required.
Born in a Tiny Room on the Highest Ground in Paris
NRJ's story starts far from Sweden, in a cramped studio in Paris' 20th arrondissement. Jean-Paul Baudecroux and Max Guazzini founded the station in June 1981 under the name Nouvelle Radio des Jeunes, deliberately setting up on the highest available ground in the area so their 92.0 MHz signal could cover the whole of Paris, according to a history of the network on Wikipedia. The fledgling youth station nearly folded just three years later, and survived largely thanks to singer Dalida, who became something like its godmother and helped keep it on air through 1984. From that near-collapse, NRJ grew into a genuine global operation, now broadcasting in more than 15 countries to over 30 million listeners a week.
A Swedish Branch Three Decades Deep
NRJ arrived in Sweden on October 1, 1993, launched under what is now Bauer Media Group's Swedish operation. Bauer had already run the station in partnership with the French network for years before formally securing the rights to the NRJ brand itself in November 2024, a deal that cemented the Swedish station's place inside one of the country's largest commercial radio portfolios alongside sister station Mix Megapol.
What You'll Hear
NRJ Sweden keeps the format its French parent built decades ago: current chart pop, an energetic on-air feel and a constant focus on what is new, aimed squarely at younger listeners who want hits without the nostalgia.
