Spain's Biggest Pop and Hits Radio Station

Listen Now

LOS40 streams the current pop, dance and reggaeton hits that make it Spain's biggest music radio brand, broadcasting nationwide from Madrid under the PRISA Radio group. It is free to listen right now, anywhere in the world, no account required.

Spain's Second-Biggest Radio Audience

LOS40 draws close to three million daily listeners, giving it the second-largest radio audience in Spain behind only news and talk giant Cadena SER, according to figures reported by iVoox. That scale makes it the clear leader among Spain's dedicated music stations, well ahead of any other hit radio competitor in the country.

From a Madrid Chart Show to Its Own Satellite Network

LOS40 began in 1966 as a music program inside Radio Madrid, now Cadena SER, before growing into a standalone 24-hour format in 1979 while still operating under the Cadena SER umbrella. The station started broadcasting via satellite in 1985, and by the 1987-88 season it had split off entirely as its own independent station, Cadena 40 Principales, under the PRISA Group rather than Cadena SER, according to a history of the brand on Wikipedia.

An Awards Show Built for Its Own 40th Birthday

The station turned its anniversary into an annual event. The LOS40 Music Awards, originally called Premios 40 Principales, launched in 2006 specifically to celebrate the station's fortieth year on air, with the first ceremony held at the Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid on December 16, 2006. Two decades later, the awards remain one of the biggest nights in Spanish-language pop music.

A Brand That Crossed the Atlantic

PRISA Radio now operates the LOS40 brand across multiple Spanish-speaking countries, carrying the same hit-driven format and name recognition built in Madrid into markets across Latin America, a reach that goes well beyond its original Spanish FM signal.
