LOS40 Catalunya streams the current pop, dance and adult contemporary hits that define Spain's biggest music radio brand, with regional windows for Catalonia layered onto the national feed. It is free to listen right now, anywhere in the world, no account required.
Born as a Radio Madrid Chart Show
LOS40 did not start as a standalone station at all. In 1966, Cadena SER asked one of its presenters, Rafael Revert, to build a music program for younger listeners, and he adapted the American Top 40 format into a weekly countdown of the 40 biggest hits, voted on by the audience. The first broadcast aired on Radio Madrid on July 18, 1966, with "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas and the Papas taking the inaugural number one spot. The format spread quickly to ten Cadena SER stations across Spain, with tapes recorded in Madrid and shipped out for simultaneous broadcast nationwide, before LOS40 finally split off into its own independent station network in 1979.
A National Brand With Regional Windows
Today LOS40 operates under PRISA Radio as Spain's biggest music station, with Catalonia carrying its own regional disconnection from the national feed. That structure, common across Spain's major radio chains, lets a national brand with a single playlist still carry local news, events and advertising specific to Catalonia rather than treating the entire country as one undifferentiated market.
What You'll Hear
Expect current pop, dance, electropop and reggaeton hits layered with the occasional regional touch, the same hit-driven format that has kept LOS40 at the top of Spain's commercial radio rankings for decades, now adapted for Catalan listeners specifically.
