LOS40 is Spain's pop and top 40 radio station, playing the biggest chart hits in Spanish and English, and you can listen live and free on Radio Shuffle from anywhere in the world. It is part of the PRISA Radio group, and its playlist is built for anyone who wants to know what Spain is singing along to this week.
What You Will Hear
LOS40 is a hit-driven station: the latest pop, dance and urban tracks, chart entries and big international names alongside Spanish stars, plus entertaining shows and lively hosts. According to Wikipedia, it is the most important music station in Spain, with 2,925,000 listeners in 2018, and the second-largest share of the country's radio audience just behind Cadena SER, within the same PRISA group. It is a good way to keep up with the current Spanish pop scene without an algorithm.
A Chart Show That Became a Station
The brand started small. Los 40 Principales originated as a music show on Radio Madrid, now part of Cadena SER, in 1966, and became an independent radio station in 1979. Cadena SER asked Rafael Revert to create a programme for a younger audience, and the first show aired on 18 July 1966. The idea came from a trip to the United States, where Revert noticed teenagers repeatedly paying for the same song on jukeboxes and decided to give that Top 40 format to listeners for free on the radio. It is recognised as Spain's first thematic radio station.
From Los 40 Principales to LOS40
The brand was simplified to LOS40, as MyTuner reported in 2016, and now runs in several Spanish-speaking countries through PRISA Radio. The station's other big public moment is the LOS40 Music Awards, originally called the Premios 40 Principales, created in 2006 to mark the fortieth anniversary of the station.
