Global Pride arrived as part of a broader shift in British commercial radio toward dedicated LGBTQ+ programming. Virgin Radio UK launched Virgin Radio Pride UK in June 2021, and Bauer Media followed two months later with Hits Radio Pride, a six-month national pop-up station fronted by presenters including Fleur East and Stephanie Hirst, with guest hosts like Mel C and Gok Wan.
