Relax FM Chillout streams lounge, downtempo and soft electronic tracks from Moscow, one of several themed web channels built around Relax FM, the Russian relaxation station Gazprom-Media launched from scratch in 2006. It is free to listen right now, anywhere in the world, no account required.
Built as the Opposite of a Man's Station
Gazprom-Media put Relax FM on air in 2006, just two months after launching the male-skewing talk station City FM, and the two were designed as deliberate opposites from the start. Nikolai Senkevich, then general director of Gazprom-Media, explained the split in comments reported by Gazeta.ru: where City FM was built for a mostly male audience, Relax FM was aimed squarely at women, pitched through an aural image of "the sound of waves" and "the rustle of leaves" rather than a conventional format description. The pair of launches together drew around eight million dollars of investment over their first two years on air.
From 90.8 FM to a Family of Mood Channels
The station's main signal still broadcasts on 90.8 FM in Moscow, but Relax FM has since grown into a small family of mood-specific web streams rather than a single playlist. Alongside Chillout, the station runs separate channels built around meditation music, background sound for an office, nature recordings, and lullabies for children, letting listeners pick the exact mood they want instead of one general relaxation mix.
One of Ten Brands Under GPM Radio
Relax FM now sits inside GPM Radio, the Gazprom-Media subholding that manages ten separate radio brands across Russia, with Relax FM carrying the company's original wellness-and-relaxation format into a much larger modern portfolio.
What You'll Hear
Chillout leans into lounge, downtempo and soft electronic textures built for working, studying or simply slowing down, a calmer companion to the more overtly spa-like nature-sound and lullaby channels elsewhere in the Relax FM family.
