Radio Puangue streams a varied local mix of music, sports and talk live from Curacaví, a valley town in Chile's Santiago Metropolitan Region, under the slogan "La Radio de los Recuerdos y Mucho Más," the radio of memories and much more. Press play on Radio Shuffle and it streams free, instantly, wherever you are.
Named for a River With a Deep History
The station takes its name from the Puangue, the river that drains the valley around Curacaví into the Maipo. Long before any broadcast tower stood here, the valley was home to the Picunche, a Mapuche-descended people who farmed and gathered along the riverbanks near a hill the Spanish later called Cerro de las Brujas, the Hill of the Witches. When Pedro de Valdivia's conquest reached the area, the Indigenous communities along the Puangue were granted in encomienda to Juan Bautista Pastene, folding the valley into Chile's colonial economy centuries before it became a commuter route between Santiago and the coast.
On Air Since 2009
Radio Puangue itself is a newer addition to that long valley history, broadcasting on 106.3 FM since June 29, 2009 under director Victor Guerra. Based on Matrona Aminta Lara in Curacaví's Villa Germán Riesco, the station built its reputation as a hometown alternative on the dial, mixing varied music programming with sports coverage and talk aimed squarely at the local community rather than a national audience.
A Small Station With a Local Following
That local focus has carried the station well past its home valley through online streaming platforms, where it keeps an active audience checking in from across Chile and the Chilean diaspora who grew up with Curacaví's hometown station on the radio.
