The Dutch Hit Station That Grew From a One-Euro Purchase

Listen Now

Qmusic is a Dutch hit radio station playing contemporary pop, party favourites and singalong classics, and you can listen live and free on Radio Shuffle from anywhere in the world. It broadcasts across the Netherlands on FM, DAB+ and online, and it is best known for its cheerfully guilty pleasure special, Het Foute Uur.

What You Will Hear

According to Wikipedia, Qmusic runs a contemporary hit radio and hot adult contemporary format, with morning and afternoon shows and signature specials such as Het Foute Uur, "The Wrong Hour," a celebration of songs everybody knows and nobody admits to loving. Weekend programming has featured DJs such as Armin van Buuren. The station also runs listener competitions such as Het Geluid, in which participants guess a sound for prize money, and annual initiatives such as the Top 40 Awards.

A One-Euro Start

Qmusic began broadcasting on 31 August 2005. It is owned by DPG Media, the Belgian media company, which as Wikipedia describes bought the NoordzeeFM radio station in 2005 for the symbolic sum of one euro. That modest beginning turned into a fast climb: the station's share of the audience grew from 3.8 percent in 2005 to 9.9 percent by 2015, and in October and November 2014 it became the second most listened radio station in the Netherlands for the first time.

Where to Hear It

The Dutch service is heard on the FM frequencies 100.4, 100.5 and 100.7 MHz, as well as DAB+ and DVB-T. Its Belgian sibling, Qmusic in Flanders, is a separate station with its own studio and line-up, so make sure you are listening to the Dutch one if you want the Netherlands version.
