Roots in a 1928 Nanjing Broadcasting Station
According to Baidu Baike's history of the station, Jiangsu News Radio's institutional lineage traces to a broadcasting station established in Nanjing in 1928, when the city served as the national capital. That station was reorganized as Nanjing People's Broadcasting Station in 1949, and in October 1952, following administrative changes that merged Nanjing with the surrounding southern and northern Jiangsu regions, it combined with the era's southern and northern Jiangsu people's broadcasting stations to form Jiangsu People's Broadcasting Station, the provincial predecessor of the station that exists today.
From General Provincial Radio to a Dedicated News Format
Jiangsu People's Broadcasting Station became part of the newly formed Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation in June 2001, when the province consolidated its radio, television, and cable operations under one organization, according to the Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation's institutional history. Out of that consolidated network, Jiangsu News Radio launched as its own dedicated channel on January 6, 2007, becoming, by the station's own account, the first province-level news-format radio station in China. It began broadcasting only in Nanjing before expanding to cover the entire province in July 2009.
A Signal Built to Cover an Entire Region
The station now broadcasts on FM 93.7 in Nanjing, extending to FM 95.3 in southern Jiangsu and FM 91.2 in the province's northern reaches, running a 24-hour news format that synchronizes its major morning and evening bulletins with Jiangsu News Comprehensive Radio, its sister AM service.
