Rock FM Ballads takes the slowest, most emotional half of the rock catalog and gives it a dedicated stream of its own, a spinoff of Romania's Rock FM built entirely around the songs meant to be felt rather than played loud.

A Frequency That's Changed Its Name Three Times

Rock FM Ballads runs on the infrastructure of Rock FM, a Bucharest station whose main frequency has worn three different identities before landing on rock. It launched in 1994 as Radio Tinerama, rebranded as Mix FM in 2000, became One FM in 2007, and only turned into Rock FM on October 25, 2010, when the frequency's owners committed fully to a classic rock format spanning the 1960s through the present (Mihsign Station).

Ownership shifted too. ProSiebenSat.1 Media held the station until selling off its Romanian operations in 2013, after which the Greek broadcaster Antenna Group acquired Rock FM in December of that year, folding it into a portfolio that also includes Kiss FM, Magic FM, and ONE FM (Antenna Group).

One Network, Several Rock Moods to Choose From

Rock FM doesn't limit its rock identity to a single broadcast signal. Alongside the main frequency, the network runs a set of genre-specific web channels, Rock Ballads among them, sitting next to Hard Rock by Rock FM, Rock 80s & 90s, and Rock Blues, each one isolating a different mood rather than forcing listeners through a single mixed rotation (Rock FM). Ballads gets its own lane specifically because a power ballad and a hard rock anthem serve two completely different moments, and mixing them into one stream underserves both.

A Morning Show That Turned Rock Fans Into Blood Donors

Rock FM's flagship morning program, Morning Glory with Răzvan Exarhu, built one of the network's most striking side projects, a campaign called România Are Sânge de Rocker, Romania Has Rocker Blood, run with the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Center and the Donorium donor app (Let's Rock). Over a single month, five of Romania's best-known rock acts, Vița de Vie, COMA, Byron, Trooper, and Nightlosers, each recorded a rock cover of a classic Romanian song to drive attention to the cause, with Trooper's rock take on Mirabela Dauer's "Fotoliul din odaie" opening the series.

The campaign directly targeted a real problem: Romania sits among Europe's lowest countries for blood donation, with roughly 1.7 percent of the population donating, a fraction of donor rates in Denmark, the UK, or the Netherlands. In its first four days alone, the push drove more than 1,000 new Donorium app downloads, numbers strong enough that the campaign has returned in multiple later editions, including a 2023 partnership with Romania's Ministry of Finance.

  • Dedicated ballads stream, one of several genre-specific web channels run alongside Rock FM's main broadcast.
  • Decades of rebrands behind it, the frequency has run as Radio Tinerama, Mix FM, and One FM since 1994.
  • Owned by Antenna Group, part of a Romanian portfolio that includes Kiss FM and Magic FM.
  • Community impact beyond music, its morning show's blood donation campaign has run multiple editions since its launch.

Why It's Worth a Spot in Your Rotation

A ballads-only stream is a small, specific promise, no filler, no sudden jump into a distortion pedal when you're in the mood for something slower. Coming from a network that's spent three decades finding its identity and now uses that reach to get people donating blood, Rock FM Ballads carries the weight of a real broadcaster behind a very focused idea.
