A tiny state with its own broadcast monopoly
Radio Monaco's reach across the French Riviera, carried on 98.2 FM in Monaco itself plus 95.4 in Nice and the Var and 103.2 around Cannes and Grasse, runs through a uniquely Monégasque piece of infrastructure. According to the history of Monaco Media Diffusion, the Principality's state broadcaster was established in 1994 as Monte-Carlo Radiodiffusion before being renamed in 2016, and it remains the sole licensee for all radio and television broadcasting in Monaco, majority owned by the Principality itself. That single operator runs 23 stations across 30 frequencies along the coast from Cannes to the Italian border, and Radio Monaco broadcasts on infrastructure that exists because one of the world's smallest states decided to control its own airwaves directly.
A morning show with a local accent
Daily programming leans on Le Morning, branded Made in Monte-Carlo and hosted by Léo Barraband, Giulia Testaverde and Marie Marquet, mixing news and local topics into the kind of regional identity a station broadcasting out of a two square kilometer country has to lean into rather than avoid.
A full roster of resident DJs
Beyond the talk, Radio Monaco runs a dedicated 100% Mix DJ lineup built around named residents including Rhum G's Sunny Time, Jem'S' Sidekick Radio Show, Yann One's After Chic and the House Therapy pairing of DJ Eight and Gil Martin, giving the station a genuine club radio identity rather than a generic dance playlist with no personalities attached to it.
Dance music built for a destination, not just a city
Monaco's whole economy is built around being a destination rather than a hometown for most of the people who pass through it, and Radio Monaco's format fits that reality: polished, international electronic music designed to sound equally at home in a Monte-Carlo hotel lobby, a Cannes beach club or a car driving the coastal road between the two.
