Streaming From the City That Gave the World French Touch
This channel broadcasts from a city with a specific claim to electronic music history. In the early 1990s, Paris' Palace nightclub became ground zero for a homegrown dance sound, with DJs like Laurent Garnier spinning tracks inspired by the Chicago and Detroit scenes that had birthed house and techno. By the second half of the decade, Paris had turned that influence into something distinctly its own, a movement that came to be known as French Touch, built on addictive choruses, tight basslines, funky samples and filtered disco samples that drew the sound closer to Chicago house than to Detroit techno. Daft Punk became the movement's most famous export, playing the first Respect party in October 1996 before their 1997 debut album Homework turned French Touch into a genuinely global phenomenon, alongside acts like Air, Cassius, Motorbass and Bob Sinclar.
A Natural Home on FIP
FIP itself launched in Paris in 1971 as a commercial-free antidote to city noise, building a reputation over the following decades for an eclectic signal that refused to stick to one genre, mixing jazz, rock, chanson, hip-hop and electronic music hand-picked by in-house programmers rather than an algorithm. Autour de l'Électro takes that same curatorial instinct and applies it specifically to electronic music, a fitting single-genre channel for a network broadcasting out of the city that helped define the genre's modern sound.
