Before Christian rock had much of a home on FM dial, a programmer named Bryan Whitaker decided to build one himself. ChristianRock.Net started in 1998 out of that frustration, and it has been streaming ever since, now run as a nonprofit funded entirely by the people who listen to it.

Built Because Nothing Else Existed

Whitaker's idea was simple: if terrestrial radio wasn't going to play Christian rock, the internet would. He founded and still runs the station today, and what began as a one-man project became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2003. The station has stayed listener-funded ever since, running on donations rather than ads or subscriptions, an unusual model for internet radio that has kept it independent for well over two decades broadcasting out of Springfield, Missouri.

Recognition and a Growing Network

The station picked up Best Internet Radio Network at the American Christian Music Awards in 2005, validation for a format that mainstream Christian radio had largely ignored. That success led to expansion rather than a single-channel operation: the organization now runs six related streams under one roof, covering hits, classic rock, hard rock, worship and even Christian country gospel, letting Christian Rock Dot Net itself stay focused purely on contemporary Christian rock.

The Artists That Define the Station

The playlist leans on bands that built the genre's modern identity, names like Skillet, Disciple, Seventh Day Slumber, Stryper and Kutless rotate alongside newer acts still working to break through. It is programming built by someone who was a fan first, which shows in a lineup that favors substance over whatever is trending in Christian music at any given moment.

Listen In

Nearly thirty years after one frustrated listener decided to fix a gap in Christian radio himself, ChristianRock.Net is still doing exactly that. Press play on Radio Shuffle and hear a station built by fans, for fans.
