W Radio streams news, talk and morning conversation live from Bogota, Colombia, built around the kind of agenda-setting political and cultural discussion that shapes the country's news cycle. Stream it live and free right now on Radio Shuffle, no account or app required.
Born out of Caracol Estéreo
W Radio's roots trace back to Caracol Estéreo, where broadcaster Julio Sánchez Cristo hosted a morning program called Viva FM from 1991 to 1996, according to a biography of the host. Sánchez returned to the station in 2003 to launch La W, the morning news, talk and variety show that turned W Radio, owned by Spain's Prisa group, into one of the country's most listened-to and most quoted stations, syndicated as far as Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, the United States' east coast and Spain.
A national conversation, not just a local one
La W built its reputation on live political interviews and breaking national news delivered in a conversational, unfiltered format, airing weekday mornings from 5am to noon Colombia time. That combination of hard news and genuine back-and-forth conversation, rather than scripted bulletins, is what made the show, and the station behind it, into something closer to a national institution than a typical morning drive program.
A 2026 merger that rewrote the map
In January 2026, Prisa restructured its Colombian radio operations entirely, merging W Radio with sister network Caracol Radio into a single combined operation spanning 76 stations across 37 cities, according to reporting on the integration. Sánchez Cristo, previously W Radio's director, took charge of the combined operation and now fronts 6AM/W, the flagship news program built from the merger, while former El Tiempo newspaper director Roberto Pombo took on editorial direction. The restructuring also pushed the brand across borders, launching Caracol América out of South Florida the same year.
Still Colombia's conversation starter
Whatever its exact corporate structure in any given year, W Radio's identity has stayed consistent since Sánchez Cristo's 2003 return: a station built to get the country talking about the same story at the same time every morning, a format that outlasted multiple ownership changes and, in 2026, an entire network merger.
