Founded with a mission against sensationalism
Radio Television Supreme launched in 2021, founded by J. Steevens Est. as an independent Haitian radio and television platform built specifically around accuracy and impartiality. According to the station's own profile, it was created to step back from sensationalism and help restore public trust in Haitian media, framing its entire purpose around a problem the country's press was openly struggling with.
Launching into one of the hardest places in the world to report
That mission mattered because of the environment it launched into. Reporters Without Borders reports that Haiti is home to more than 700 radio stations, though only about half operate with a legal license from the regulator Conatel, and that since 2021, the same year Radio Television Supreme began, journalists there have increasingly faced threats, attacks, kidnapping and even murder tied to gang violence, with little accountability for those responsible. A station built on a promise of accuracy and impartiality was staking that claim at a moment when reporting itself had become genuinely dangerous.
From one station to a digital network
Five years later, the outlet evolved again. By 2026, Radio Television Supreme rebranded as 509 Network, a fully digital platform built to connect Haiti and its diaspora through audio, video and interactive content, extending its reach across Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Twitch under the same handle. The stated mission held steady even as the format changed entirely, a station betting that its original promise of trustworthy information mattered more than any single platform it broadcast on.
A direct line to the diaspora
That digital-first pivot points toward an audience Haitian radio has always had to serve beyond its own borders. Haiti's diaspora has long sent billions of dollars home each year, a financial relationship that runs alongside a cultural one, and a station built to reach that audience on the platforms they already use is chasing a connection that matters well past Port-au-Prince's own city limits.
