Anime fandom in Pakistan used to live almost entirely online, in Facebook groups and late-night streaming sessions. Shopen Anime Radio, broadcasting out of Lahore under the tagline "your daily anime tunes," gives that fandom something it didn't have before: a dedicated station of its own, part of the Liberty Beats Network alongside sister channels like Lo-fi Beats and Pop Studio.

The timing lines up with a real cultural shift. Anime first reached Pakistani households in the early 2000s through television broadcasts of shows like Dragon Ball Z and Pokémon, but it stayed a niche interest for years, something watched quietly rather than discussed openly. That changed as high-speed internet and streaming platforms made the genre far more accessible, and the fandom has since spilled offline entirely.

From Living Rooms to Convention Halls

Events like AniCon, held at FAST National University in Islamabad, now draw hundreds of attendees for cosplay contests, karaoke and anime quizzes, pulling fans in from cities as far as Lahore. Lahore itself has become something of a hub, home to gatherings like Geek Haven's Geek Con and Anime Matsuri Lahore, which pair cosplay competitions with merchandise stalls and panel discussions. For many attendees, the appeal goes well beyond the shows themselves. One AniCon participant described the culture as a rare space where "no one judges anyone," while another credited it with giving self-described "geeks and nerds" an outlet they didn't have growing up.

Shopen Anime Radio taps directly into that same energy, just delivered through a speaker instead of a convention badge. Rather than trying to be a general music station that occasionally plays anime openings, it exists purely for listeners who already know exactly what they want to hear: soundtracks, openings and character themes pulled straight from the shows shaping this scene.

Part of a Bigger Streaming Ecosystem

The station sits inside the Liberty Beats Network, a Lahore-based platform running five separate channels alongside interactive extras like an Anime Card Battle game and an anime-themed horoscope feature. That structure says something about where fandom radio is heading: less a single broadcast signal, more a hub built around a specific community's habits, with the music as the entry point and everything else layered around it.

For Pakistan's anime fans, many of whom found their community online before finding it in person, Shopen Anime Radio offers a small but meaningful thing: a station that assumes you already belong.
