Not every rock station starts as a rock station. RadioBOB began life as an unremarkable "Dudelfunk" outlet before Kiel-based media group Regiocast relaunched it from Kassel on August 5, 2008, as the successor to SkyRadio Hesse. Under the new banner "Wenn Rock, dann BOB!," the format switch turned out to be one of the more successful bets in German private radio, growing the station into the country's most listened-to commercial broadcaster.

From a Struggling Dudelfunk to Germany's Biggest Rock Brand

RadioBOB built its audience with a rock-leaning adult contemporary format aimed at listeners over 30, mixing 70s and 80s staples like AC/DC, the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin with newer acts such as Rise Against and Volbeat. The station went digital nationwide via DAB+ in August 2011, a move that helped it reach far beyond its original Hesse coverage area.

One Station, More Than a Dozen Rock Flavors

Rather than force every subgenre of rock into a single playlist, RADIO BOB! now runs more than a dozen dedicated streams through its myBOB app, including Classic Rock, Metal, 80er Rock, Deutschrock and even a Mittelalter Rock channel built around medieval-folk rock. It's less a station than a rock ecosystem, letting listeners pick the exact era or subgenre they're after.

Where Rockparty Fits In

Rockparty is the channel built for energy rather than nostalgia, leaning on contemporary rock acts like Those Damn Crows alongside other high-tempo, party-ready tracks. Where sister streams look backward to rock's classic eras, Rockparty stays focused on the genre's current, festival-ready edge, matching the loud, celebratory spirit the name promises.
