A Concession Dating to 1972
The frequency behind YA! FM has carried a license since June 13, 1972, when it was granted to Vicente Capillo Rocha, running at 28 kilowatts. Ownership passed to Radio Tipo in 1983, and the station spent years on air as Stereo Oro under Radio Núcleo Oro before that company, now known as Grupo Pazos Radio, rebuilt the format entirely in May 2002 and relaunched it as YA! FM, the pop-driven station that still carries the frequency today.
Broadcasting From Mexico's First Port
Veracruz itself gives the station an unusually deep musical backdrop. The city became Mexico's first port after Hernán Cortés established it in the early 1500s, and it carries that heritage audibly: the clock tower bells in the central plaza famously play "La Bamba" every hour, the signature song of son jarocho, the Afro-Caribbean-Indigenous-Spanish folk tradition native to the region. YA! FM's modern reggaeton and pop playlist runs alongside that older sound, giving the port city a current-hits soundtrack layered on top of centuries of coastal music tradition.
Part of a Four-Station Local Group
YA! FM operates as one piece of Grupo Pazos Radio's local lineup, which also runs sister frequencies XHLL-FM, XHHV-FM and XHU-FM across the Veracruz market, giving the group a hand in several different formats across the same city.
