talkSPORT streams live football commentary and sports talk around the clock, holding UK broadcast rights to Premier League, English Football League, FA Cup, Champions League, and international tournament matches. It streams instantly on Radio Shuffle right now, free, with no account or app download required, the exact feed heard nationwide across the UK.
Born as a brasher alternative to the BBC
The station launched on February 14, 1995 as Talk Radio UK, built by American-based Emmis Communications as a deliberately "brasher" alternative to BBC Radio 5 Live, according to the station's broadcast history. TalkCo Holdings bought the station in November 1998 under chairman Kelvin MacKenzie, the former editor of The Sun, and rebranded it Talksport in January 2000, positioning it as the UK's first national commercial sports radio station. News Corp acquired the station's parent company, Wireless Group, for $296 million in June 2016, and talkSPORT now sits under News Broadcasting Ltd, part of News UK.
A rights portfolio built for match day
That commercial backing bought talkSPORT one of the deepest sports rights portfolios in British radio. The station carries live commentary for Premier League matches, English Football League fixtures, FA Cup rounds, Champions League nights, and major international tournaments including the World Cup and European Championship. As of October 2024, RAJAR audience data put talkSPORT's reach at roughly 3.5 million listeners a week, fronted by presenters including Alan Brazil, Laura Woods, Adrian Durham, and former Countdown host turned football pundit Jeff Stelling.
