Volunteer-run for more than two decades
Sunshine FM is not a commercial outlet chasing a network playlist. It is operated by the Sunshine FM Radio Association Incorporated, a not-for-profit based out of the Kon-Tiki Business Centre in Maroochydore, and a GoVolunteer listing for the station notes it has provided a quality alternative to commercial and nationally networked radio for more than twenty years. Association members pay an annual fee that lets them vote at general meetings and stand for committee positions, and the station leans on community donations and volunteer broadcasters to stay on air.
Local talk built around the coast itself
That volunteer structure shows up directly in the programming. Alongside its hit music rotation, Sunshine FM runs regular segments on travel, real estate, and boating and weather reports produced with Coast Guard Mooloolaba, one of several volunteer marine rescue flotillas, including Coast Guard Noosa, established in 1972, that patrol the Sunshine Coast's beaches and waterways. It is local radio built for a community that spends its time on the water as much as on the sand.
