Skyrock Klassiks streams golden-era hip-hop and rap around the clock, a nostalgia channel from France's Skyrock built around the genre's defining decade. Press play on Radio Shuffle and it streams instantly, free, with no account or app download required.
Launched to pull younger listeners back toward the classics
Skyrock rolled out Klassiks in October 2016 alongside sister web channels Urban Music Non-Stop and 100% Français, then took it national on DAB+ in July 2021 alongside the main Skyrock signal, a move the network pitched specifically as a way to reach younger audiences with older urban music rather than treating the channel as a niche sideline.
The decade that built French rap
The playlist draws on a scene that peaked roughly between 1990 and 2001. MC Solaar's 1991 debut album made him the genre's first major French star, a more melodic counterpoint to harder-edged Paris suburb acts like Suprême NTM. Marseille produced its own answer in IAM, whose 1994 single "Je Danse le Mia" hit number one nationally, and whose 1997 album L'École du Micro d'Argent went on to sell more than a million copies, numbers that still anchor the genre's French golden age alongside the American classics Klassiks also plays.
