Russkoe Radio streams pop, rock and dance music performed entirely in the Russian language, free on Radio Shuffle, broadcasting out of Moscow with relays reaching Saint Petersburg, Yerevan and listeners across several CIS countries. Press play and the format is immediate: no English-language crossover hits, no filler in other languages, just Russian-language music around the clock.
Launched as a Deliberate Break From the Format
Russkoe Radio went to air in Moscow on August 2, 1995, founded by Sergey Arkhipov, Sergey Kozhevnikov and Vitaly Bogdanov, according to the station's history. Its founding idea was simple but, at the time, genuinely new for Russian radio: a national station that played Russian-language music exclusively, 24 hours a day, at a moment when much of the country's commercial FM dial leaned heavily on Western pop. Early test broadcasts that first summer ran music-only from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. with no jingles at all, just songs separated by five to twenty seconds of silence, before full commercial programming and advertising arrived the following year.
An Awards Show Held Inside the Kremlin
In 1996, barely a year after launch, Russkoe Radio created the Golden Gramophone, an annual folk and pop music award that has grown into one of the most prominent music industry ceremonies in the Russian-speaking world. The main event now runs at VTB Arena in Moscow, with parallel ceremonies staged simultaneously in Saint Petersburg and Minsk, a rare example of a single radio station's own award show expanding into a multi-city broadcast event rather than staying a one-room industry dinner.
Two Guinness World Records for Simply Not Stopping
The station has twice set Guinness World Records for the longest continuous radio broadcast, running a 52-hour marathon in 2010 and extending that to 60 hours in 2015. Records like that only make sense for a station whose entire identity is built around endurance and consistency, playing the same core format for as long as physically possible rather than switching things up for variety's sake.
A Signal That Follows the Russian-Speaking World
Russkoe Radio broadcasts on 105.7 MHz in Moscow and 107.8 MHz in Saint Petersburg, but its reach extends well past Russia's borders, with a relay in Yerevan, Armenia at 104.9 MHz and additional coverage across Belarus, Cyprus and Kazakhstan. That spread reflects the station's core premise directly: wherever Russian-language listeners are, the same all-Russian soundtrack can follow them.
