Launched in 2014 by One of Slovenia's Biggest Radio Groups
Rock Radio began broadcasting on September 8, 2014, owned by Radio Center d.o.o. as part of the Nextmedia group, one of Slovenia's largest commercial radio operators, which also runs Hitradio Center, Enter Radio, Frajer Radio and Juboks. The format leans on pop-rock from the 1980s and 1990s aimed at an urban audience roughly 25 to 45 years old, giving the Nextmedia stable a dedicated rock outlet alongside its other genre-specific stations.
A Decade Marked With Slovenia's Own Rock Legends
The station marked its 10th anniversary in October 2024 with a concert at Ljubljana's Media Centre, where it assembled a one-off "Rock Radio All Star Band" built from leading Slovenian rock instrumentalists, guitarists Bor Zuljan and Tadej Košir, drummer Marko Soršak "Soki," keyboardist Nejc Škofic, and bassist Jani Hace, according to Siol.net's coverage of the event. The band performed arrangements of the country's most successful rock songs alongside guest performers including Tomi Meglič, Jernej Dirnbek, Tomislav Jovanović "Tokac," Sergej Škofljanec, Gregor Skočir, Pero Lovšin, Vlado Poredoš, and Matjaž Jelen, with younger artists Gregor Strasbergar and Manca Trampuš also joining the lineup, and Culture Minister Asta Vrečko in attendance.
