Built by One Man's Curiosity About How Radio Works
Radio Treby traces back to owner Marcus Larsson, who worked as a truck driver before his interest in radio transmission technology led him to contact a local station just to understand how it worked. That curiosity turned into sketches for his own station, and Radio Treby began broadcasting in 2008. By Larsson's own admission the station was never going to be the biggest or flashiest on the dial, but he built a loyal following and a market advertisers kept coming back to.
A Railway Town's Local Voice
The station broadcasts from Vara, a town of around 4,400 people that grew up around its railway junction after train traffic began on the Uddevalla-Vänersborg-Herrljunga line in 1866. Grain merchants, a pharmacy and the town's first bank followed the tracks in, and that same small-town commercial spirit still shapes the station's programming today, right down to its focus on local businesses and the people who run them.
Mornings, Requests and Local Stories
The schedule runs on a handful of recurring features built around listener participation, starting with the morning show "Vaknat i Treby," hosted by Elin and Marcus. "Önsketimmarna," the station's request hour, lets listeners shape the playlist directly, while "3-kaffet" sends hosts out to talk to people about their jobs and everyday working lives around the region. In 2021, that mix of community focus earned Radio Treby the title of Vara's Årets Företagare, Entrepreneur of the Year.
