An independent station built from scratch in 2021
Radio Sisko FM launched in 2021 in Aubagne, a town in the Bouches-du-Rhône department best known as the birthplace of French writer and filmmaker Marcel Pagnol. According to coverage from Radio en Ligne France, the station was founded by Mehalla Mohamed, known on air as Sahby, building an independent voice for news and talk radio broadcasting in both French and Arabic.
A move to the birthplace of cinema
In 2022, Radio Sisko FM relocated to La Ciotat, a coastal Provençal town whose own history intersects with media in a way few small cities can claim. La Ciotat is home to the Eden-Théâtre, built in 1889 and recognized as the oldest cinema still in operation anywhere in the world, where the Lumière brothers screened some of the earliest motion pictures ever shown to a paying audience. The town also has the more offbeat distinction of being where pétanque was invented in 1907, giving a small Mediterranean port city an outsized footprint in French cultural history.
News, talk, and a website to match
Beyond the live broadcast, Sisko FM operates as a full independent media outlet, running a companion news site that covers science and technology, lifestyle, environment, entertainment, and cinema alongside the station's core news and current affairs programming. That combination of live radio and written journalism gives the station a broader footprint than a typical single-format web radio operation.
