Radio Shake Hit is a relative newcomer compared to most FM stations still on the air. It launched on 24 October 2018, created by speaker and vocalist Matteo Folino, taking over the 100.2 FM frequency in Turin previously held by Discoradio, according to a report from radiospeaker.it. The station also reaches Biella on 103.9 FM, and operates out of Via Philips 13 in Alpignano, just outside Turin.
What Radio Shake Hit represents is less a standalone startup than an expansion. It is the seventh station under Gruppo Fast Media, which the outlet L'Italia in Digitale and other regional radio trade coverage describe as Piedmont's largest radio group, running six regional and semi-regional stations of its own alongside an exclusive regional license for a national brand. The group's flagship is Radio Manila, and Radio Shake Hit was built to give that stable a dedicated outlet for a single sound: dance, house, and clubbing music, all day.
A schedule built around the night
The station's tagline, "Scuote la tua voglia di musica," shake your craving for music, describes its programming philosophy fairly literally. The broadcast day runs softer in the early morning hours and builds progressively more energetic as the day goes on, culminating in two dedicated clubbing music slots in the evening plus live weekend DJ sets. Since 1 February 2021, artistic direction has been in the hands of Gianluca Argante, a working DJ and record producer, a choice that keeps the station's programming decisions in the hands of someone still active in the same club scene the station is built to soundtrack.
That structure, a dance specific channel nested inside a larger regional radio group, mirrors a common strategy in Italian commercial radio: rather than force one station to cover every format, groups like Fast Media carve out dedicated frequencies for specific audiences, letting Radio Shake Hit stay singularly focused on the sound of Piedmont's dance floors.
