A genre born in a nightclub chill room
The music this channel is built around has a surprisingly specific birthplace. According to Wikipedia's history of chill-out music, the term itself came from The White Room, a side room at London's Heaven nightclub in 1989 where DJs played ambient mixes so dancers could take a breather from the main floor. The concept spread through club culture over the following years, and Café del Mar in Ibiza became one of its most famous homes in the early 2000s, with resident DJs building ambient house mixes out of jazz, classical, Hispanic and New Age influences. What began as a literal side room next to a dance floor eventually grew into a standalone genre broadcast on stations like this one, built entirely around the version of the night that comes after the music stops demanding anything from you.
One calm channel inside a regional giant
Good Life is part of SAW-Musikwelt, the web radio platform run by radio SAW, the station that has been Saxony-Anhalt's biggest private broadcaster since launching from a converted wallpaper factory in Magdeburg in September 1992. The network's main FM signal, boosted by a transmitter on the Brocken, the highest peak in northern Germany, carries decade-specific and genre-specific digital spin-offs covering everything from 80s and 90s nostalgia to R&B and soft rock ballads. Good Life slots into that lineup as the network's dedicated relaxation channel, serving listeners who want the station's production quality and regional reach without a single beat per minute faster than necessary.
