Three Friends With Decades of Local Media Behind Them
Radio Saba Sound launched in the summer of 2020, built by three friends who had already spent years in Abruzzo's local media scene: Sabatino Di Pietro, a former speaker at Radio Musica 81 who later worked as a TV director and technician, Nicola Civitarese, an author and editor, and Pino Cavuoti, a longtime journalist across radio, television and print, according to coverage from Zonalocale. They described their goal simply: a popular, free Abruzzese web radio delivering hits, news, concerts and anything connected to music, without the ad interruptions of a typical commercial station.
Built Around the Vasto Area, Not Just San Salvo
San Salvo sits on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo in Chieti province, a beach town close to the larger hub of Vasto, and the founders framed the station explicitly as serving the wider Vastese area rather than just their home town. That regional focus shows up in the schedule, which mixes current chart shows like Top 40 with vinyl-focused programming such as Te lo do io il vinile, and runs alongside a sister feed called 7080 Connection for listeners who want vintage hits instead of current ones.
A Nonprofit Ambition Behind the Playlist
Beyond the music, the founders have talked about wanting to grow the project into a nonprofit that brings young people closer to communication as a craft, treating the station as a training ground as much as a listening destination. The project now runs under the cultural association Mirabilia APS and has registered as an official news outlet with the Vasto court, a level of formal structure unusual for a station that started as three friends with a shared idea in 2020.
