Radio S Narodni streams narodna muzika, Serbian folk music, around the clock as one of the genre-specific digital channels run by Radio S, a commercial network spanning Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is free to listen right now, anywhere in the world, no account required.
A Genre With Its Own Radio Orchestra
Folk radio in Serbia has deep institutional roots. Radio Belgrade, founded in 1929, built an entire in-house ensemble dedicated to the genre, the Narodni Orkestar, in 1935, making it the station's first musical ensemble of any kind. Violinist Vlastimir Pavlović Carevac, described as an exceptional expert in folk music, took the conductor's podium for the five-member string group, according to research on the orchestra's founding from the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. That early investment in live folk ensembles set a precedent that narodna muzika deserved dedicated airtime of its own, not a slot inside a general music schedule.
One Channel in a Modern Regional Network
Radio S Narodni carries that same idea into a very different era of radio. The station operates alongside sister channels S1 through S4 and a long list of digital-only streams covering Trap and Rap, Starogradski old-city music, and 2000s-era folk, giving the Radio S network a dedicated home for nearly every strand of regional Balkan music rather than mixing them into one feed.
