Radio Italo4you streams Italo Disco, Euro Disco, High Energy and other 80s dance sounds out of Szczecin, Poland, under a tagline that says exactly what it's built for: One Station One Generation. It did not start as a business. It started as two friends who wanted to share their own CD and vinyl collections with anyone who cared to listen.
Built Out of a Shared Record Collection
The station traces its start to October 2005, when Dj Back and a friend known as Dj Commander launched Italo4you out of a shared passion for Italo Disco and Euro Dance, according to the station's own history page. The idea was straightforward, take the records the two of them had already been collecting and give other fans of that specific sound a place to hear it, rather than build a station around chart trends or advertising revenue.
A Shutdown, Then a Rescue
The project hit a crisis in 2007 when Dj Back suspended the site and the station entirely, effectively ending the original run. It did not stay off the air for long. By May 2007, a new team had relaunched the website and forum under the Italo4you name, keeping the format and mission intact even after its original founder had stepped back.
A Founder Who Didn't Get to See It Last This Long
Dj Back, born July 17, 1971, died on December 26, 2013, at just 42 years old. The station he helped start out of a personal record collection has now outlived him by more than a decade, still running under the name he and Dj Commander picked back in 2005, a small but real legacy for a project that began as nothing more than two friends wanting to share music they loved.
Still Talking to Its Listeners Directly
Radio Italo4you keeps a guest book with messages from listeners across Croatia, Germany and Poland, runs a song request feature called Grająca Szafa, the Polish term for a jukebox, and maintains an Android app alongside its Facebook community. Those features point to a station built around ongoing conversation with a specific, dedicated fan base rather than passive background listening.
One Genre, One Community, Two Decades Running
Twenty years after Dj Back and Dj Commander first put their record collections online, Italo4you is still billed as one of the longest-running internet stations dedicated to Italo Disco. It has survived a founder's shutdown, a volunteer relaunch, and that founder's own death, carried the whole way by the same idea it started with, that a shared love of one specific sound from one specific decade was worth building a radio station around.
