Radio F 94.5 is a private radio station from Nuremberg, in Franconia, Germany, playing hits from past decades, melodic pop and schlager for a grown-up audience. It broadcasts on 94.5 FM, and you can hear it live on Radio Shuffle for free, wherever you are in the world.
What Radio F Plays
According to German Wikipedia, the station calls itself "der fränkische Gute-Laune-Sender," Franconia's feel-good station, aimed at listeners over 40 with a middle-of-the-road format built around hits of past decades from artists such as Elvis Presley, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. In a portrait on Radioszene, programme director Michael Lein describes the mix as mostly oldies with a quarter schlager and some contemporary melodic pop, under slogans that promise more music and something that is "regional like nothing else."
The First Private Station in Nuremberg
Radio F began in February 1986 on the cable network alongside Neue Welle Franken, which now operates as Charivari 98.6, making it the first private broadcaster in the city, as Wikipedia records. It won one of four terrestrial frequencies advertised on 25 July 1986, beating dozens of other applicants, and has been on 94.5 MHz since 3 December 1986. The F in the name stands for Franken, the German name for Franconia.
Guten Morgen Franken
The flagship is the weekday morning show Guten Morgen Franken, which Radioszene says packs local weather, traffic reports and traffic-camera alerts into a long ad-free opening stretch. Wikipedia names presenters Steffi Pankotsch and Peter Halm among its regular voices. For commuters in the Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen area, that mix of practical information and familiar songs is the point of local radio.
Part of Funkhaus Nürnberg
Radio F shares a building with sister stations in the Funkhaus Nürnberg, a company founded in 1995 that also includes Hit Radio N1, Charivari 98.6 and Radio Gong 97.1. The owners are Nuremberg regional publishers, which explains the station's strong local focus. Since November 2012 it has also been available on DAB+ in the Nuremberg area, and the web stream carries it to Franconians living elsewhere.
