Built Around Hungary's Biggest Morning Show
Rádió 1's national profile took off in December 2016, when top Hungarian radio host Sebestyén Balázs moved his morning show to the station after being dropped from rival Class FM. A naming dispute followed almost immediately: Balázs and his co-hosts first launched as Reggeli Show, but Class FM objected that the name sounded too close to its own Morning Show, so the program settled on the name it still carries, Balázsék. The station was owned at the time by Hungarian-American film producer Andy Vajna, giving the relaunch serious financial backing from day one.
A Network Reaching Across Hungary
That morning show anchors a national network of local frequencies rather than a single city signal, with Rádió 1 broadcasting on dozens of frequencies across the country, including this stream serving Szeged. The format stays consistent city to city: current chart hits, request shows and DJ mix programs layered around the shared national morning lineup.
Broadcasting From the Paprika Capital
Szeged itself gives the station a distinctive home base. Hungary's third-largest city sits where the Tisza and Maros rivers meet, a location that made it a major salt-trading center centuries ago, and it has since become known worldwide as the paprika capital, celebrated every September at the Szegedi Paprikafesztivál. The city's paprika research even produced a Nobel Prize, after scientist Albert Szent-Györgyi isolated Vitamin C from local peppers at the University of Szeged in 1937.
