Qmusic Belgium plays pop, dance and chart hits for Flanders, live from its base in Vilvoorde, with a lively morning show and party-minded specials. You can stream it live and free right now on Radio Shuffle, wherever you are in the world.
Going Nationwide on 12 November 2001
Qmusic launched across Flanders at 6am on November 12, 2001, and it was originally written Q-music, according to Wikipedia's entry on Qmusic in Flanders. It is a commercial station owned by DPG Media, the company formerly known as VMMa and Medialaan. The morning show belonged to Sven Ornelis, who presented it from the start of the station until the summer of 2015, and Erwin Deckers co-hosted the very first broadcast.
A New Name in 2015
In 2015 the station dropped the hyphen and its fifteen-year-old tagline, becoming Qmusic with the new line "You make us Q." Program director Tom Klerkx told Radio World that the change reflected an audience that wants to contribute to what the station does, on social media and elsewhere. The station targets listeners between 18 and 34 with a hit music format, and it films its studio so that the radio show can also be watched online and on television.
A Studio on the Beach in Ostend
Every July and August, Qmusic sets up the Q-Beach House, a temporary studio on the beach in Ostend that has run since 2006. It broadcasts from a terrace bar with sunset concerts and Friday night parties, a summer tradition that sums up the station's approach: radio that you can walk up to and be part of.
The Foute Party
The station's other signature event is De Foute Dag, held on the last Friday of June, which pairs a listener chart called De Foute 128 with a big evening party that alternates between Ghent and Hasselt. Foute roughly translates as "wrong," and the joke is that the songs are guilty pleasures everyone knows the words to. Qmusic also runs a DJ training scheme, the Q-academy, which started in 2008.
Tune In
Two decades after its nationwide launch, Qmusic is still Flanders' party-friendly hit station. Stream Qmusic Belgium free on Radio Shuffle to hear it live.
