A French format born in Lyon
The Nostalgie name goes back to September 16, 1983, when Pierre Alberti and Frédéric Coste created Radio Nostalgie in Lyon, according to the French Wikipedia entry on the station. The station built out a national French network starting in 1985 and reached Paris by 1986, before eventually passing into the hands of NRJ Group, the media company founded by Jean-Paul Baudecroux and Max Guazzini, during the breakup of the RMC Group.
A German launch built on DAB+
Nostalgie's German offshoot was announced on November 20, 2020 and launched on January 4, 2021, going out nationwide on DAB+ through the Antenne Deutschland multiplex. Unlike its French parent's mix that leans on 1980s material especially heavily, the German version skips the 1960s entirely and focuses on a blend of 70s, 80s, and 90s hits, with news updates on the half hour.
Fast growth for a young station
For a station only a few years old, Nostalgie Deutschland has grown quickly. The most recent Media-Analyse audio survey from agma recorded 314,000 daily listeners, a jump of 53.2 percent from the previous survey period and an 82.6 percent increase year over year, a growth rate that stands out even in Germany's crowded DAB+ radio landscape.
