A Broadcaster That Outlasted Four Names

NDR Info belongs to Norddeutscher Rundfunk, a Hamburg-based broadcaster whose own name has shifted with German history itself. It began broadcasting on May 2, 1924 as Nordische Rundfunk AG, known as NORAG, according to Wikipedia's history of the broadcaster. It became Norddeutsche Rundfunk GmbH in 1933, then Reichssender Hamburg under Nazi state control from 1934 to 1945, before Allied administration renamed it Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk in the postwar years. The broadcaster settled into its current name, NDR, on January 1, 1956.

From NDR4 to NDR Info

The news channel itself went through its own smaller rebrand, known first as NDR4 and then NDR4 Info, before adopting its current name, NDR Info, on June 2, 2002. That name change reflected what the channel had already become, the dedicated information and news service for the entire NDR broadcast region covering northern Germany.
