NDR 2 plays contemporary pop and hits from the last thirty years for northern Germany, with morning shows, evening music specials and Saturday Bundesliga coverage. You can stream it live and free right now on Radio Shuffle, wherever you are in the world.
What NDR 2 Sounds Like
NDR 2 is the pop station of Norddeutscher Rundfunk, the public broadcaster based in Hamburg. It is described as a hot adult contemporary music and service wave, and its tagline is "Genau meine Musik," or "exactly my music," according to German Wikipedia's entry on NDR 2. It reaches listeners in Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Bremen, on FM, cable, satellite, DAB+ and online.
On Air Since 1 January 1956
NDR 2 started on January 1, 1956, growing out of NWDR Nord, the radio service that Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk began on April 30, 1950. That makes it one of the older continuously running pop brands in German radio, even though its sound has been refreshed many times since.
The Only NDR Station With Advertising
NDR 2 is unusual inside its own broadcaster. On January 2, 1981, it aired the first advertising block in NDR's history, and it remains the only NDR radio programme allowed to carry ads. That quirk gave NDR 2 a more commercial-sounding, listener-friendly profile than its sister channels.
Soundcheck and the Bundesliga Show
Weekday evenings are given over to Soundcheck, a music block of live recordings, the German music scene, new releases and party sounds. On Saturday afternoons the NDR-2-Bundesligashow takes over, running from 15:00 to 18:00 with presenters such as Christian Haacke, Martin Roschitz and Moritz Cassalette, according to the show's TuneIn listing. The morning show is presented by Elke Wiswedel and Jens Mahrhold.
Tune In
Nearly seventy years after it started, NDR 2 remains one of the main soundtracks to northern German daily life. Stream it free on Radio Shuffle to hear it live.
