One DJ's Bet on a Different Kind of Radio
Mix FM first broadcast on 23 February 1996, founded by Lebanese DJ Rodge, known professionally as Roger Saad, who built the station around a more personal, individual approach than the Lebanese radio industry had seen before, according to Wikipedia's history of the station. That founder-driven identity helped the station grow its listener numbers quickly in a crowded Beirut radio market.
The Only Lebanese Station to Claim a Regional Title
Mix FM is the only Lebanese station to have won the title of the Middle East's number one radio station, a regional distinction that set it apart from the dozens of other FM signals competing for Beirut's ears. The station built that reputation on a Top 40 English-language format aimed at a cosmopolitan, internationally minded audience in a city long known for blending Arabic and Western cultural influences.
Bringing the Concert to the City
Mix FM became the first Lebanese station to produce its own live events, bringing international acts including Shakira, Sting, Bryan Adams, Enrique Iglesias, Evanescence, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, and Carl Cox to Beirut audiences. That willingness to move beyond the studio and into concert promotion gave the brand a physical presence in the city's nightlife that a purely on-air station would never have built.
