MBS Gold streams 80s hits, French chansons and pop-rock classics from the Paris region, free on Radio Shuffle right now, no account or app needed. The station bills itself as "La Radio Classic Gold," built around synth-pop anthems and classic rock ballads from the decade that defined it.
Born From a 2016 Takeover
MBS did not start out under that name. The frequency it broadcasts on, 92.8 FM west of Paris, originally carried Music Box before Groupe HPI bought the station in 2016 and rebuilt it around a new format, according to a biography of HPI founder Hervé du Plessix. The rebrand turned Music Box into MBS, a station mixing French songs, pop-rock classics and country under the "classic gold" banner it still carries today.
Part of a Bigger French Radio Portfolio
Groupe HPI, the company behind the rebrand, has run French radio stations since du Plessix founded it in 1993. Alongside MBS, the group also owns Évasion FM, a regional network across Île-de-France, and Chante France, a station dedicated to French chanson that HPI acquired in 2010. That portfolio gives MBS a specific niche inside a crowded Paris-region dial: nostalgia built on English and French hits rather than talk, news, or the latest chart singles.
Reaching Beyond a Single Frequency
MBS has pushed past its original 92.8 FM signal onto DAB+ digital radio, with listings placing its digital signal reaching toward Nice and Cannes alongside its home base in the Paris area. For a station built on a single rebranded local frequency less than a decade ago, that spread marks a real expansion of its reach across France's modern digital dial.
