Lounge plus is a relatively young addition to Germany's radio landscape, but it built its terrestrial footprint on a frequency with an established jazz pedigree rather than starting from nothing.
Born From Radio B2
According to the station's German Wikipedia entry, lounge plus launched on December 1, 2020 under Radio B2 GmbH, a private Berlin broadcaster. Rather than build a new signal from scratch, the station took over the 105.6 MHz FM frequency in Rostock at the end of 2020, a frequency previously occupied by JazzRadio Berlin. That handover left lounge plus with an audience already tuned into a smooth, jazz-adjacent sound, a natural fit for its own chillout format.
A Sound Built for Unwinding
Per the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg's broadcaster listing, lounge plus blends ambient, deep house, downtempo, chillout, smooth jazz, and soul jazz with standards pulled from the Great American Songbook, a wider net than a typical single-genre chillout station casts. Hourly news updates run between 6am and 6pm, giving the otherwise mood-focused station a light current-affairs backbone during the day.
A DAB+ Overnight Home in Berlin
Beyond its Rostock FM signal and online stream, lounge plus found a second home on Berlin's Maxx FM DAB+ platform, airing overnight between 6pm and 6am from its December 2020 launch until Maxx FM's shutdown on August 31, 2025. Radio B2 has since weighed further DAB+ expansion into Hamburg, though that project has been deprioritized in favor of the company's other property, Star*Sat Radio.
Why It's Worth Tuning In
Lounge plus offers a genuinely broad chillout listen, stretching from ambient and deep house into smooth jazz and Great American Songbook standards, streamed from a Berlin operator that built its FM presence on a frequency with real jazz history behind it.
