Born as a television channel's radio companion
La Kalle launched on October 29, 2016 on 96.9 FM in Bogotá, taking over a frequency that had previously repeated the signal of Blu Radio, according to a history of the station. It did not start as a standalone radio project. La Kalle premiered as a programming block tied to Época, a television channel, built around music videos of Mexican regional music and Colombian carrilera music, with regular live crossovers connecting the TV channel and the radio signal in real time.
The station is owned by Caracol Televisión, itself a subsidiary of the Colombian conglomerate Valorem, placing La Kalle inside one of the country's largest media groups alongside television, radio, and streaming operations that reach across Colombia.
A rebrand built for the reggaeton era
La Kalle's sound changed significantly in January 2025, when the station overhauled both its logo and its musical direction, shifting away from its original regional Mexican and carrilera roots toward a harder-edged urban format built on reggaeton, bachata, and Latin urban hits, while still keeping rancheras in rotation for its existing audience. That shift lined the station up with the reggaeton boom that has reshaped Latin American radio over the past decade, giving Bogotá listeners a dedicated home for the genre from one of the country's most established broadcasters.
