La Invasora 104.9 plays banda, norteño, ranchera and grupera hits live from Mexicali, Baja California, on the Mexican side of the California border. You can stream it live and free right now on Radio Shuffle, wherever you are in the world.
A Frequency That Has Worn Many Names
The station behind La Invasora is XHMC-FM, and its dial position has a longer story than its current brand suggests. According to Wikipedia's history of XHMC-FM, 104.9 first went on air in 1984 and received its formal concession on November 10, 1987. It started out as Estéreo Vida, playing contemporary music in Spanish, then became Vida 104.9 at the end of 2013.
Pop Years and a Change of Hands
In 2014 the frequency moved to contemporary hit radio as Juventud 104.9, and in 2015 it took on the Arroba FM name. Grupo Larsa Comunicaciones took over in 2017 and relaunched it on December 1 as Arroba Sin Limites, then Radiorama returned to operate the station in September 2018. Few frequencies in Mexicali have changed identity as often, which makes the current, more settled regional Mexican format feel like a homecoming.
Uniradio Turns It Into La Invasora
Uniradio, the company behind a network of stations across northwest Mexico, took operational control in January 2024 and relaunched 104.9 as La Invasora. Its Mexicali page describes a mix of banda, ranchera and norteño with a focus on local bands and popular hits, aimed at listeners between 18 and 40 who connect with traditional Mexican roots. The slogan is "Ahi se pone y no mueve," and the on-air team includes Mayte Lopez, Xolo and Frania Barrera.
Why Mexicali Loves This Sound
Mexicali is the capital of Baja California and sits right on the border, a place where banda and norteño are part of daily life on both sides of the line. Sierreno and grupera fill out the mix, and the station also leans into contests, giveaways and social media, so listening feels like part of a community rather than a background playlist.
Tune In
After decades of rebrands, 104.9 in Mexicali now speaks regional Mexican music fluently. Stream La Invasora free on Radio Shuffle to hear it live.
