Part of Europe's Largest Private Classical Network

Klassik Radio has broadcast from Augsburg, Germany since October 28, 1990, growing into the largest private classical, soundtrack and lounge music network in Europe. The company restructured as Klassik Radio AG in 2004, and its flagship frequency now sits alongside dozens of themed digital channels covering everything from baroque and opera to film scores and smooth jazz, of which the Jean-Michel Jarre stream is one.

The Composer Behind the Channel

Jean-Michel Jarre, born in Lyon in 1948 and trained on piano, built his reputation as one of electronic music's defining pioneers. His 1976 album Oxygène, recorded in a makeshift home studio, went on to sell an estimated 12 million copies worldwide and helped define the ambient electronic sound this channel is built around. He had already pushed electronic music into unlikely spaces years earlier, becoming the first composer to bring it into the Paris Opera House with the 1971 ballet AOR.

A Career Built on Record-Breaking Scale

Jarre's live shows became just as central to his legacy as his studio albums. His 1979 concert at Paris's Place de la Concorde drew more than a million attendees, a record he has since broken three more times, and his 1997 Moscow performance pulled an audience of 3.5 million, earning him a Guinness World Record. That same reputation for scale carried him to Communist China as the first Western artist invited to perform there, cementing his status as electronic music's great showman.
