Germany's All-Mozart Classical Station

Listen Now

Klassik Mozart streams nothing but Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's symphonies, operas and chamber works around the clock from Germany, free on Radio Shuffle right now, no account or app needed. It is one of a family of single-composer digital channels run by Klassik Radio, Germany's dedicated classical broadcaster.

A Classical Broadcaster Built Over Three Decades

Klassik Radio first went on air on 28 October 1990, according to its Wikipedia entry. Ulrich R. J. Kubak bought a majority stake in the company in 1999 and took full ownership in 2002, before taking Klassik Radio public in 2004. The network now runs its broadcasting centre out of Hamburg while remaining headquartered in Augsburg, streaming its signal, and a long list of themed digital channels, worldwide online.

Why Mozart Gets His Own Channel

Among composers who could support a dedicated channel, Mozart's case is unusually strong. Working from Salzburg and later Vienna, he wrote his first symphony as a child in London in the mid 1760s and his last three, including the Jupiter Symphony, in a single summer in 1788, shortly before his death in 1791 at just 35. His major operas, from Idomeneo in 1781 through Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, were written in the final decade of a short life, giving the catalog enough depth and variety to fill a continuous stream without repeating the same handful of famous pieces.

One Composer, One Signal, No Interruptions

That depth is exactly what a single-composer channel needs. Rather than slotting a few Mozart pieces between other composers on a general classical schedule, Klassik Mozart can move from the early violin concertos he wrote in 1775 to the late symphonies and opera overtures without ever needing to reach for other names to fill the hours.
