Brazil's First Capital, Still Its Carnival Capital
Salvador was founded in 1549 and served as Brazil's first capital for 214 years, holding the seat of colonial government until it passed to Rio de Janeiro in 1763. Its historic center, the Pelourinho, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 for its concentration of colonial architecture, and the district still turns into one of the main gathering points every year for Salvador's Carnival, home to the Casa do Carnaval museum that documents the festival's history. In 2025, Guinness World Records officially recognized Salvador's Carnival as the largest street carnival in the world built around trio elétrico sound trucks, the mobile stages that have defined Bahian Carnival for decades.
A National Pop Format in Brazil's Afro-Brazilian Cultural Capital
Jovem Pan's own history stretches back to Rádio Panamericana, founded in São Paulo in 1942, with the Jovem Pan name adopted in 1965 and a national satellite network, Jovem Pan Sat, connecting affiliates since 1994, including this Salvador station. Broadcasting a chart-driven pop and rock format into Salvador puts the network inside a city whose musical identity runs through axé, samba-reggae and the trio elétrico sound that exported Bahian Carnival music to the rest of Brazil.
Pop Radio Alongside a City That Never Stops Celebrating
For listeners in a city built around festival culture nearly year-round, Jovem Pan Salvador offers a straightforward national pop alternative to the local Carnival-season soundtrack, carrying the same hits heard on Jovem Pan affiliates across Brazil into one of the country's most culturally distinct state capitals.
