HR2, the Drugi Program of Hrvatski radio, streams live from Croatia with a mix of music, culture, and talk programming built as the second national channel of the country's public broadcaster. You can stream it free anytime on Radio Shuffle.
Among Europe's Oldest Radio Signals
Croatian radio has a genuinely early claim to broadcasting history. Croatia was among the first countries in Central and Eastern Europe to put a radio station on air, with Radio Zagreb signing on back on May 15, 1926. The channel that became today's HR2 traces its own separate line back to 1945, when a second Radio Zagreb channel first launched, though that early version was discontinued in 1950.
The Second Program as it's known today took real shape during a 1964 to 1965 reorganization, when Radio Zagreb was restructured into three distinct channels, Radio Zagreb 1, 2, and 3, each with its own editorial board and programming identity rather than a shared general feed. By 1997 the Second Program had expanded to round-the-clock broadcasting, and as of the mid 2000s it sat alongside two other national channels and seven regional stations under the umbrella of Hrvatska Radiotelevizija, Croatia's public broadcaster.
A Channel Built for Music and Culture
HR2 has carved out its own identity within that structure, leaning toward music and culture programming rather than the news-first format of HR1. Specialist shows carry that identity into specific genres, like Tračnicama bluesa, a weekly blues program hosted by musician Tomislav Goluban, the kind of dedicated genre programming that gives a national public broadcaster room to cover music a commercial station would rarely touch.
That editorial independence, each HR channel with its own board since the 1960s reorganization, has let HR2 build a distinct personality over six decades: less about breaking news, more about music, culture, and the kind of long-form programming that needs room to breathe.
What You'll Actually Hear
Expect a mix of music programming across genres, cultural talk, and specialist shows exploring specific scenes and sounds, delivered with the institutional backing and archival depth of a public broadcaster that has been on air for very nearly a century.
HR2 is free to stream on Radio Shuffle alongside thousands of other stations from around the world. Tune in to one of Europe's longest-running radio traditions.
