Gaydio London streams pop hits and chat for the capital as part of Gaydio, the UK's first full-time LGBTQ+ radio service. It is free to listen right now, anywhere in the world, no account required.
Born as a Four-Week Pride Experiment
Gaydio began in 2006 as a deliberately temporary project, a four-week pop-up FM station Ian Wallace and Toby Whitehouse built to broadcast over the Manchester Pride festival, according to a history of the station on Wikipedia. The trial worked well enough to lead to three more short-term broadcasts, including a joint World AIDS Day transmission with BBC Radio Manchester in December that same year.
A First-of-Its-Kind License
Ofcom granted the station a full-term broadcast license on November 7, 2008, making Gaydio the first LGBTQ+ service anywhere in the UK to win one. It went full-time on June 18, 2010, officially becoming the UK's first LGBTQ+ FM radio station rather than a seasonal event broadcast.
From One City to the Whole Country
The station expanded well past its Manchester roots on January 7, 2013, relaunching as a national service after acquiring the DAB radio licenses previously held by Gaydar Radio. London's feed carries that same national identity into the capital, alongside a separate Gaydio Brighton service that has run on its own FM and DAB signal since October 2018.
