France's Dance and Electro Station

Listen Now

Fun Radio streams France's biggest dance, electro, and house music mix live from Paris, branded "le son dancefloor," and you can listen for free on Radio Shuffle from anywhere in the world, no French FM tuner required.

Born as a Secret Split From NRJ

Fun Radio launched on October 2, 1985, as "FUN," the work of three station owners, Éric Péchadre, Pierre Lattès, and Jean-Baptiste Blanchemain, who quietly merged the six regional NRJ franchise stations they controlled with a Nice station called Chic FM, according to Wikipedia's history of the station. The split from NRJ was kept secret enough that even the station's own presenters only learned about the new identity on launch day itself.

From Rock-Grunge Shock Radio to Dancefloor Brand

Fun Radio's format has shifted repeatedly over four decades. After the Hersant group bought the station in 1987 and moved it to Neuilly-sur-Seine, it briefly copied NRJ's own playlist style before pivoting hard toward a provocative rock-grunge identity in the early 1990s, anchored by the free-antenna relationship show Lovin'Fun, which pulled in 8.7 ratings points by spring 1994. RTL Group took a controlling stake in 1993, and by the late 1990s the format had shifted again toward R&B, techno, and rap before settling into its current dance and electro identity in 2007.

Arthur, Cauet, and a String of Breakfast Stars

The station built its audience around a run of high-profile morning hosts, including Arthur's Planet Arthur from 2000 to 2004 and Sébastien Cauet's breakfast show afterward, alongside long-serving voices like Max, who spent twelve years on air, and Bruno Guillon. Cauet himself was briefly dismissed from the station in January 1995 over an offensive joke, a reminder of how much of Fun Radio's early identity was built on the kind of unfiltered, free-antenna radio that would not survive on air today.

France's Second-Biggest Music Station

By 2013, Fun Radio had grown into France's second most listened to music station with 3.5 million daily listeners, trailing only NRJ and sitting ahead of Skyrock, according to Wikipedia, dominating ratings in 20 French cities including Lyon, Bordeaux, and Toulouse. The station now broadcasts across roughly 250 frequencies nationwide on FM, DAB+, and satellite, under Groupe M6 and RTL Group ownership, alongside sister stations RTL and RTL2.

Fun Radio carries four decades of French radio history into a format now built entirely around dancefloor music, from a secret NRJ splinter station to one of the country's biggest electronic music brands.
