Broadcasting From a City That Built Its Own Sound
Romania's capital has a surprisingly deep relationship with house and techno. According to a Bucharest.ro history of the city's clubs, Web Club introduced techno, house and drum and bass to the city in the late 1990s, at a time when Balkan disco and rock still dominated the nightlife scene, and turned DJ sets into the main event rather than background noise. That foundation eventually produced Rominimal, the minimal techno sound built in Bucharest by the a:rpia:r collective of Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu and Raresh starting around 2006, a style that went on to earn international recognition for the city on club lineups far outside Romania.
By the early 2010s, venues like Control Club, Guesthouse and Platforma Wolff had turned that early underground energy into a consolidated scene with loyal audiences, according to the same history. Extravaganza Radio broadcasts into that lineage, running a schedule built entirely around the genres that made Bucharest a name worth knowing on the European house and techno map.
Homegrown DJs on the Schedule
The station's podcast lineup features Romanian DJs including Liviu Hodor and Christian Green. Hodor's own career traces back to his hometown of Campulung, where he started as a radio DJ at 16 before moving into clubs at 18, according to his artist profile. He later worked with Pro TV and ran his own show on Vibe FM, long promoted as Romania's leading dance station, before building a festival career that has taken him to Neversea, Electric Castle and Untold.
