The Journey streams a broad classic rock format, almost entirely commercial-free, live from Vancouver as CJNY-FM 106.3. Press play on Radio Shuffle and it streams instantly, free, with no account or app download required.
A long-delayed launch for an Indigenous-owned station
CJNY-FM is a not-for-profit station owned and operated by Northern Native Broadcasting, which was first awarded the Vancouver license back in 2017 before the station actually reached air. Signal testing began on December 5, 2022, and The Journey officially launched on March 3, 2023, according to coverage from RadioWest.ca, finally delivering on a license that had sat dormant for years.
Classic rock with deeper cuts than the competition
The Journey runs a classic rock format, but with a noticeably broader playlist than Vancouver's existing classic rock stations, mixing familiar staples with more obscure tracks that rarely get airtime elsewhere. Recent plays on Radio Shuffle have included Slade's "Look at Last Nite," the kind of deeper catalog pick that sets the station apart from a tighter commercial rotation. Running 99 percent commercial-free gives the format room to breathe in a way few other stations on the dial can match.
Built to connect Vancouver with the North
Beyond the music, the station exists to serve a specific community need. Roughly half of Vancouver's Aboriginal population originally comes from northern British Columbia, and CJNY is directly linked to CFNR, Northern Native Broadcasting's station serving that northern region, giving urban Indigenous listeners in Vancouver a continued connection to their home communities rather than severing that tie once they move to the city.
Listen free on Radio Shuffle
The Journey streams around the clock, and Radio Shuffle carries the feed live with nothing to install and no subscription required. Press play for classic rock with deeper cuts, broadcasting from Vancouver's urban Indigenous community.
